As wines are a little more refined than many other drinks and the people enjoy them even more so, although they are still drinks festivals; you can expect something a little different in terms of atmosphere from wine festivals in the UK. They are a celebration of wine, in all its guises – whether it's rose, white, red, sweet, dessert or matured and fortified wine such as Port. However, while beer and cider festivals may be held in a field with some tents, wine festivals tend to be held in more classier surroundings.
What Can You Expect?
Not all wine festivals are indoors, this is true, but the ones that are outdoors tend to be held in big marquees or pristine town centres. There is usually always some kind of tasting experience element to wine events, because wine can be very complex and if you like wine a lot you may be interested in knowing exactly how to describe it and what you should be looking for. It is also a good way to improve your palate and understanding of the composition.
The food on-site is likely to be classier than that available at say a beer festival, so you could expect some nice salads, and more refined street food. As cheese and wine go together wonderfully, there may be cheese stalls alongside wine stalls. Demonstrations may include cookery lessons that give you tips for how best to use wine and which wine goes best with which ingredient.
