If you know anything about cider, you may already have heard of the Marcle Ridge orchards in Herefordshire as they are famous for the cider and dessert varieties that are grown there. Over the Bank Holiday weekend in spring, the village of Putley where the orchards are situated, plays host to Blossomtime in Putley, a celebration of the area’s unique and renowned cider.

As you may expect, the main draw of the festival is the big cider tasting event that takes place inside the village’s town hall. There you will have a chance to try a wide variety of delicious and refreshing perries and ciders not just from Herefordshire, but also the surrounding counties as well. As well as giving you the chance to try some flavours you may never have before, it also gives you a chance to meet and greet with the local producers who are dedicated to the craft of cider brewing. The festival’s main attraction is the grand cider tasting in Putley’s village hall, where there’s a huge array of traditional ciders and perries from Herefordshire and surrounding counties to try. You’ll get to say hello to the folks that made them.

It may be that you are not quite as into cider as some of the people you are attending the event with are.  If that is the case, do not worry as there is still enough things to do without doing a lot of drinking. Putley and Herefordshire are known for their aesthetic beauty. Why not spend time having a wander through the orchards, taking in the many beautiful and breathtaking vistas as well as enjoying some of the excellent and filling homemade food on offer.
